Kristin Sampson

Kristin Sampson was hailed by The New York Times as one of "…the most accomplished opera singers…" for her triumphant portrayal of Violetta. Earlier this year, she was also praised by the Times Herald-Record for her "beautiful vibrant voice and emotion-filled acting…Sampson's strong flexible soprano voice leaves no doubt" that her "glorious delivery" of La Traviata will continue. Other recently acclaimed portrayals include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore, Norina in Don Pasquale, Alice Ford in Merry Wives of Windsor, Mum in Albert Herring, Madeline/Isabel in The Face on the Barroom Floor, Jenny in Down in the Valley and Geraldine in Hand of Bridge.
    As a member of Apprentice Artist Program for Singers with the Santa Fe Opera, Ms. Sampson appeared in productions of Countess Maritza, Idomeneo, Carmen, and Dialogues of the Carmelites. Most recent engagements with the Di Capo Opera Theatre include Suzanne in Therese Raquin, the Widow in The Merry Widow, ensemble in Manon Lescaut, Mimì in La Bohème, Susannah (cover) in Susannah, Brunhilde in Die Lustigen Nibelungen the female swing in Grand Night for Singing, as well as performing in Le Villi and the Messa di Gloria under Maestro Anton Coppola. Additional recent engagements include Mimì with the Little Opera Company of New Jersey in their production La Bohème, and Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare with the Hudson Valley Opera.
    Upcoming, Ms. Sampson will return to Dicapo Opera Theatre to perform her first Juliette in Romeo et Juliette. In addition, she will make her role debut as Micaela in Carmen on tour with the Hudson Opera Theatre, and reprise the role of Mimì in La Bohème with Opera of the Hamptons, among several operatic and broadway recital engagements.
    As a respected concert soloist, Ms. Sampson has had many successful performances of such works as the Mozart Requiem and Exsultate Jubilate, the Vivaldi Gloria, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Earnest Tales of Terror, Handel Jephte, and Bach Magnificat. Also, as an active recitalist, Ms. Sampson has appeared throughout the United States. Most recently, she joined tenor David Katz in performing Puccini to Bernstein in Long Beach, NY, and presented The Blue Estuaries by John David Earnest at the Mannes School of Music. Additionally, Ms. Sampson performed and recorded music by composers Ismi Kuremoto and Trent Hanna, and recently premiered the song cycle Songs of Death by Trent Hanna, at Sam Houston State University's Celebration of Twentieth Century Music.
    In addition to her operatic repertoire, Ms. Sampson's musical theater credits include Luisa in The Fantasticks, Maria in West Side Story, Anne in A Little Night Music, Nellie in South Pacific and Lady Larkin in Once Upon a Mattress.
    After receiving her Bachelor of Music from Sam Houston State University in conducting and music education, Ms. Sampson attended Rice University Shepherd School of Music receiving the Cecilia Bartoli Scholarship and graduated with a Master of Music in vocal performance. During the summer of 2004, Ms. Sampson participated in the International Vocal Arts Institute Montreal program appearing in public Masterclasses with Mignon Dunn and Sherrill Milnes. During the 2006 season, Ms. Sampson won the audience choice award at the Shreveport Opera, Singer of the Year competition and was a finalist for the Liederkranz competition. In addition, Ms. Sampson was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera, Northwest Regional Auditions, and the Eleanor Lieber Competition. Ms. Sampson currently resides in New York City and is a private student of Diana Soviero.
