- Act II
|
The
Speaker of the Temple (Isaac Miller) questions Sarastro
about Taminos qualifications and expresses his concern
that the trials designed for royalty may be too stringent
what if he should fail after all, he is a prince. More
than that, Sarastro (Andrew Martens) assures him,
he is a man.
|
Tamino
and Papageno are warned by the priests (Isaac Miller,
left and DAndré Williams, right)
to beware the cunning of those who would deceive them. Too often
man finds himself flattered by what he would like to hear, missing
the reason for the flattery until it is too late.
|
Why,
why, why do you remain within the walls of this temple where
the priests are determined to destroy you? the Three Ladies
(Jennifer Trimboli, Kalyna Cholhan and Christa Damaris)
demand of Papageno (Peter Clark).
|
- Monostatos lusts after Pamina and expresses the madness
of this love...
|
- In a frenzy, as hope of ultimate power slips through
her fingers, the Queen (Heather Connolly) seeks revenge
on Sarastro as the only avenue left open to her. She demands
that her daughter, Pamina (Victoria Wolfe) kill him with
the knife she has supplied for the occasion.
|
If
you will not love me, and if you will not kill Sarastro, then
die! Monostatos (Lawrence Street) tells Pamina (Victoria
Wolfe).
|
- Stopping Monostatos in the act of killing Pamina,
Sarastro (Andrew Martens) explains that within this Temple
of Wisdom, revenge is unknown to forgive is the noble
plan by which they live.
|
- The Three Spirits arrive, returning to Tamino his
magic flute and, to Pappageno, his magic bells. They also deliver
a sumptuous feast and the admonition, once again, for silence,
courage and steadfastness. First Spirit: Vera Massarotto;
Second Spirit: Leslie Schipa; Third Spirit: Barbara
Burnham Fox; Tamino: Michael Posey; Papageno: Peter
Clark.
|
|
No
siree, I wouldnt leave this feast even if Lord Sarastro
sent one of his lions after me!
- Papageno (Peter Clark)
- Lion (Joshua Parrillo)
|
- The priests ask the gods Isis and Osiris to watch
over Tamino in his trials and to bring him to an understanding
of what it is to be a wise, just and beneficent ruler.
- Clockwise from upper left: Lawrence Street,
Judy Costello, Kathleen Corke, Joshua Parrillo, Alan Reese, Joan
Saporta, DAndré Williams, Dorothy Bacon, John Person,
and Isaac Miller. At center: Andrew
