CHORAL AUDITIONS
-
- Hudson Opera Theatre is currently
holding an open call for singers interested in becoming members
of our opera Chorus.
-
- The Chorus, which performs in
each of our productions, is an integral part of the stage and
sound picture. Rehearsals will be fairly continuous beginning
in early February on Tuesday evenings and then 1-3 times weekly
for 4-5 weeks before each of the productions. Members range from
college students to retired members of the Met chorus, from school
teachers to professional singers and everyone in between. At
the present time, we are searching for all voice types (sopranos,
altos, tenors and basses).
-
- In general, Chorus Members need
to be good singers and reasonably proficient musicians. They
must be able to pronounce English, French, Italian and German.
As a rule, singers supply their own scores (except when a translation
or special edition is being used) and appear as characters on-stage,
which means that all music must be memorized. Operas are usually
presented in their original language, except in the case of comedies,
which are usually done in English.
-
- Choral auditions will be scheduled
whenever there are vacancies in the Chorus. Auditioners should
prepare one aria from an opera, oratorio or operetta in the original
language and should be prepared to sight-read a short, simple
selection.
-
- If you are interested in auditioning
for the Hudson Opera Theatre Chorus, please complete the
following form and submit it to us. You will be notified by e-mail
of an audition time and directions will be sent. Or you may call
us at (201) 906-2958 to set up an audition appointment. Chorus
members receive an honorarium for each production.
