THE 2011-2012 SEASON

The biblical tale of the indomitable Samson, hero of the Hebrews, and the wily and beautiful Philistine, Delilah, who will discover the secret of his strength. Samson’s inevitable fall and his struggle to redeem himself is a story as old as time itself. (Their very names, mean “day” and “night” in Hebrew.) With a score of endless, exquisite melody, inexhaustible orchestral color and descriptive musical invention, we watch as Samson soars with righteous energy, is overcome by his own weakness, plunges into the depths of self-loathing and despair, and finally emerges, once again, as a divine champion! Don’t miss HOT’s performances of this 19th Century masterpiece—as current today as it was 3000 years ago—presented in concert with an all-star cast, and featuring our critically acclaimed Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Ron De Fesi.
