The Art of the Viola
Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM
St. Andrew’s Church • Municipal Square • Walden, NY
“Artists’ Reception” at the Josephine-Louise Public Library

The viola is not often a featured instrument in symphony orchestras or recitals, but Polish-born Piotr Kargul and Julliard-trained Ron De Fesi demonstrate what a treasure the instrument can be in “The Art of Viola,” a rich and rare viola recital. Their program, featuring works by Puccini, Beethoven, Fauré, Hindemith, Rachmaninoff, Kreisler, Mascagni, Bruch, Debussy, Hummel and Piotr Kargul himself, includes selections bound to please almost every musical preference. Because the viola is so infrequently heard as a solo instrument, most of the selections in this recital were written for violin or other instruments and had to be specially arranged for the viola. Audiences uniformly praise the warm, fluent, and mellow timbre of Piotr’s viola in dialogue with Ron’s pianistic virtuosity.
