Natassia Velez, soprano
Natassia Velez, a New York native, has performed across the Greater New York metropolitan area as an oboist, singer, and actress. A lifelong musician, Natassia's recent accomplishments include performing as Zulma in L’italiana in Algeri with Taconic Opera, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, and English Horn Soloist of Copland's Quiet City.
Soprano, Natassia Velez has had the privilege to perform many operas such as Aïda, Carmen, Eugene Onegin, Faust, Otello, Mefistofele and The Merry Wives of Windsor with opera companies Delaware Valley Opera, Hudson Opera Theatre, and Taconic Opera. In addition to opera, she has had the privilege to sing classic and contemporary oratorios such as the Mozart Requiem, Brahms Requiem, and premiere Enoch and Jonah, both from contemporary composer Dan Montez.
Inspired by Shakespeare at a young age, acting was a large part of Natassia's initial training. Since then, Ms. Velez has performed character roles such as Miep in The Diary of Anne Frank & Kanga in Winnie the Pooh. Natassia has also had the opportunity to debut several plays and one acts.
Known by many as an orchestral oboist, Natassia has more recently been active as a freelancer; playing in musical theater pits, chamber ensembles, and symphonic bands alike. Notably, Ms. Velez has become a guest English Hornist in recent years as well as being the featured oboist on several new compositions.
Natassia currently resides in the Hudson Valley and has a love of classic and contemporary, oftentimes enjoying the juxtaposition of the two.
